“When desires are not controlled it leads to a lack of emotional safety.” —ARINZE IFEAKANDU

At least with those two characters for example the story began with his desires you know which is like what what does this man want. I knew I always wanted to write a story about this character who has a little child and wants the best. Who grew up poor and then wants something better for their child. Of course, I knew the character was going to be queer. and So, then Chief walks into the story you know a wealthy man who takes what he wants. He is like I’ve seen this man I find attractive and I don’t care anything else, I’m going to go for it. It is like a sense of entitlement. So, for me, it was quite fun to sort of explore that. Again like that sense of emotional lack of emotional safety associated with his queerness and I think that’s quite common especially when your desires are not sanctioned in society. So, every little heartbreak could become a very atmospheric thing and you’re like this is the way of the world. Then you are like who asked me to be gay? The character doesn’t even have the community to show him something different. So in some ways, he is quite isolated.
