Renowned actor and filmmaker Charles Inojie recently shared a pivotal moment in his life that unfolded as a shared creative accident. Back in 1992, while at the University of Lagos, Professor Bode Osanyin organized a monthly gathering at a resort for guest writers, and that particular month featured the esteemed Ken Saro-Wiwa as the guest reader.
Professor Osanyin proposed a drama sketch to welcome Ken Saro-Wiwa, challenging the students to showcase their creative talents. Charles, known for his shyness, reluctantly participated in the play. After the performance, to his surprise, Ken Saro-Wiwa commended the cast, particularly singling out Charles for his impressive acting debut. Curious about Charles’s future plans, Ken suggested a one-year acting course in Port Harcourt. Despite initially claiming he was preparing for JAMB, Charles took the opportunity and embarked on the course, realizing that he had come face-to-face with his destiny.
This chance meeting and the subsequent decision to pursue acting transformed Charles Inojie’s life. Completing the course marked the beginning of his journey in the entertainment industry. Charles later enrolled in a degree program, graduating in 1999, and the rest is history.
