“I felt unlovable and rejected after my father died and my marriage failed.” — Chioma Omeruah “Chigul”

Jul 18, 2023

You know, sometimes when we talk about going through pain we’re talking about metaphorical pain, we’re talking about emotional pain. In Chigurl’s case, it was not just metaphorical or emotional, it was physical. And because I know the pain, a bit of the pain, she was talking about, I know that this is real pain. And she was busiest at the time she was most pained. Then she got better. That’s a powerful lesson.

We talked about her divorce.
We talked about wanting children.
We talked about her weight.
We talked about feeling like a failure when she was a child and we even talked about her experience with back pain; with excruciating back pain.

Still, there was so much laughter, so much warmth in this conversation with Chigurl.
We had an INCREDIBLE time.

She says:

“Yes, I was Chigurl and people were liking me and I had fans. But that wasn’t it, that wasn’t joy. I didn’t see anything about myself that was worth liking. And I thought maybe I was unlovable, maybe I was unlikeable, will it ever work for me?  and you’re a woman, and when you wake up in the morning and do all the things you do, and comb your hair and wear your makeup and you feel good, but inside you’re an empty trash bag.”

I thank you for doing this interview with me, Chioma.
