Life changes all the time – but one must not change the core of who they are.” – Chude
What I learnt from Funke Bucknor Obruthe is: life changes, generations change, era changes, culture changes, people change – but one must not change the core of who they are.
If you know that this is what love is, this is what kindness is, this is what integrity is, just because society – which is an ever changing, ever malleable thing – has changed; you can change the way that you expect society to respond, you can change the way that you interpret yourself to the world, maybe, you can change your expectations of the world, you can change the way you engage with the world – but you must avoid changing the core of what you know to be true because of how other people are going to perceive you.
That is a very difficult thing to do in this life. To know yourself, to know the world, to know the truth and not care whether what you think you know -is no longer cool, is no longer mainstream. I think that to be one of the most powerful affirmation of self.
To see how other people are doing things and say ‘well that’s what they’re all doing but this is what I know to be true.’ There’s nothing that strengthens your spirit more than that.
