For World Igbo Day, I got one of my favorite Igbo-language content creators for a special edition – Joseph Obasi, or Cruise with Joe.
It was supposed to be chirpy and cheerful – so, I wasn’t ready for what hit me.
Waaaaattttt.
The depth of the life experiences Joe has gone through in his life almost knocked me over.
He shares in public for the first time that he had to drop out of school – and he tells me why. It’s linked to the family he grew up in, the lack of love he had to endure, the sister he was ready to give everything for and the sexual abuse he had to climb over.
This life? It can be a pot of cooked beans.
How he went from all of that to become this shining light in the culture, how he first thought comedy was going to be bad for business, why he refused to move to Lagos… all of this he shared with me in this week’s deeply inspiring episode.
