I wasn’t expecting how beautiful and open- hearted this conversation was going to be.
I also wasn’t expecting to get so many exclusives from an icon who has been interviewed so many times.
From the childhood memory of crying all night in Obafemi Awolowo’s house to the woman who made him lie about his name in Brazil, to dunking away from Nigeria because Abacha tried to call him, and how that turned into the blessing of continuing his education and meeting his wife, the stories kept coming.
And they warmed my heart. But none more than the moment he walked in on his daughter praying to get a husband like him…
I was always a fan of Adewale Ayuba’s music and staying power. But I left this interview being a fan of the thing that matters most – his sheer humanity.
