“I promised myself not to fail where Fela failed as a father.” – Femi Kuti
When I was bringing my son up, he was all that mattered to me. I had lost my mother and he was all I had left. He was my joy and love. He became my everything. Fela had died too so the only thing I had to hold on to was him. My son reminded me so much of my youth. People always think because we were Fela’s children it was a nice thing, but if I talk about the story, they won’t even believe it. So I said to myself, wherever Fela went wrong with my life I must do all within my power to correct it with my child. Also, where Fela was right I will emphasize it and bring my son up to understand that I am not a perfect father.
