“When my wife left me, everyone thought I was running mad.” – Femi Kuti
I didn’t cry when my mother died because everyone said I have to be a man. You know, Fela also died, and my sister and cousin had just died as well. Some people even predicted that twelve of us will die and I feared the prediction would come true. Then we had internal family problems and I was the first son everyone expected I should handle it in a certain way. It was a really terrible moment. My wife had just left me at that time as well and everyone thought Femi was going mad. But I’m thankful I overcame it all and I think it has made me a better person. It has also helped me to analyze a lot of things that I’ve shared with you today. Probably if it had not happened I might not be able to reflect and say why.
